clinical supervision for Speech and language therapists and communication specialists

  • As outlined by RCSLT and HCPC, all speech and language therapists are required to receive regular and sufficient supervision from a professional with experience in their scope of practice.

I support SLT’s working independently or SLT’s working within a setting who may not have access to clinical supervision. I can also facilitate small group supervision on request.

Clinical supervision is very different to managerial supervision which is often carried out by a line manager who supports adherence to policies, working procedures and professional standards.

Clinical supervision is a guided exploration of your professional practice and learning.

  • You are very welcome to contact me via phone, email, or my contact form. We will arrange a complimentary phone or video call to see how we can best work together.

Regular sessions are usually around 60-90 minutes, held every 4 – 8 weeks, with access to calls and emails in between as required.

One-off sessions are typically between 45 – 90 minutes and a specific area or topic of focus will be agreed beforehand, giving each person time to prepare.

During the sessions, you can expect dedicated time where you will be fully listened to and supported in a confidential and non-judgemental way.

  • I have always undertaken a supervisory role in some way throughout my career. Prior to independent practice, I managed a small team of speech and language therapists, supporting them with both clinical and managerial supervision, and facilitated regular peer supervision and learning. I have also supported and supervised SLT’s completing the RCSLT dysphagia competency framework.

In 2020 I completed the ABC Level 3 qualification in counselling skills at the Manchester College. Whilst supervision is not the same as counselling, I utilise so many of these skills in sessions with SLT’s. In 2026 I further developed my supervision skills with the RCSLT accredited course from Intamdem: ‘Are you getting enough (1)? Developing Your Understanding of Supervision Theories, Models and Practice’.

Fine tuning my active listening skills means I’m able to not only hear the issues you bring to supervision, but help us to work together to clarify and reflect on professional practice, challenge ideas in a positive and supportive way, and bring confidence to decision making.
